So you’d like to breed villagers in Minecraft? Villager breeding can’t be forced, but it can be encouraged. To provide the ideal environment, you will need to have three beds as well as the correct amount of food to throw at each couple.
Food Required:
Bread | 3 |
Carrot | 12 |
Potato | 12 |
Beetroot | 12 |
You will know you have a loving couple when they show heart particles, the hearts mean they are willing to mate! You will need to throw food at the villagers in order to feed them, the food gets added to their inventory once they pick it up.
In Minecraft, a villager's willingness can also be increased if you trade with them. Villagers will not breed if there are not enough beds, you will need to supply enough beds for all of the villagers as well as extras for any babies. You can completely control the population size by adjusting the number of beds. Want 100 villagers? Supply 100 beds!
On another note, farmer villagers will throw out excess food to other villagers, this can be used to create an automated breeding system. The village will need to be small and no other villages can exist with an 80 block radius. You will need the following roles to set this up:
- Farmer - they will gather the food from nearby crops and feed the villagers
- Breeder - picks up food dropped by the farmer
- Detector - keeps a record of the number of beds nearby to ensure breeding is available
You can use the farmer as a breeding partner, but it can slow down the process if they are too busy with the crops, so if you want to speed it up add another breeder villager. You can also make one large building with the number of beds you would like to create one big breeding room.
Breeding Minecraft villagers has a few perks:
- You can use the new villagers to fill in empty spots in the Villager Trading Hall.
- The Iron Golem Farms will only work if you have 10 villagers per golem.
- Assign them jobs to assist you.
