On Minehut, Verified players can boost a server to give it additional perks or bonuses! This FAQ page will answer some of your questions about server boosting.
What does boosting a server do?
In the first version of server boosting, we are allowing players to boost free servers to add extra playtime. This will increase the playtime on free servers by 1 hour per boost until May 1st, 2025 – after this, the boost will increase playtime by 15 minutes.
This playtime increase only counts for the day that the boost is given. After the day is over (at 1:00 AM PST), your server will go back to 4 hours of playtime available and players will need to boost your server again if you need more playtime.
Each time a player boosts your server, there will be a message broadcast in your server chat to let everyone know who sent the boost!
Paid servers will get a new boost perk in early 2025.
How do I boost the server?
First, you will need to be a Verified Minehut member. Learn more about that in our FAQ about Verified Minehut Accounts here.
Once you have your Minehut account Verified, you can boost a server by joining the Minehut Lobby (use /mh or /lobby from your server, or join directly at mc.minehut.com) and typing the command /boost <servername>.
How often can I boost a server?
Players can boost any single server once per day until May 1st, 2025 – after May 1st players can boost any single server once per week. The boost limit will reset every night at 1:00 AM PST until May 1st, 2025, and on Monday at 1:00 AM PST after May 1st.
How often can my server be boosted?
Your server can receive as many boosts during the day up to 24 hours total playtime!
Can I reward players for boosting my server?
Yes! You are welcome to give some perk or reward to players who boost your server. You may NOT pay them in real money or in any virtual item that can be cashed out for real money, but you can give them any other gift in return for their boost.
Each time a player boosts your server, there will be a message broadcast in your server chat to let everyone know who sent the boost!
Can I ask for players to boost my server in the Minehut lobby?
No. You cannot use our lobby to ask players to boost your server. This includes chat, direct message, or /ad.
Can I use /ad to tell players I’ll reward them for boosting my server?
No. You cannot use /ad to mention boosting your server at all, let alone rewards for boosting.
Can I ask for players to boost my server in my MOTD?
Sure! Just be tasteful about it and don’t go overboard.
Why does server boosting require a Verified Minehut account?
Hosting free Minecraft servers at such a huge scale like Minehut does is very expensive, and we want to be able to host your servers for many years to come. That’s why we want to prevent people from using alts to abuse the server boost feature with many fake or bot accounts. There is a finite number of physical machines in the datacenter where we host free servers, and if alt-abusers and botters can boost as much as they want, then that uses up all of the free server resources that we have available and prevents other free servers from starting. That’s not fair to them.
Verified Minehut accounts get a few different perks (with more to come in the future), and they’re all related to features that we need to really make sure that players aren’t abusing them with alts or bots. You can learn more about that in our FAQ about Verified Minehut Accounts here.
How can I see how much playtime is left on my server?
You can type /dailytime on any free server to see how much playtime is remaining.
When there is 30 minutes remaining, your server will automatically broadcast the alert to your players and you can ask them to boost your server to add more playtime!
