Act now rather than later. If you have a saved backup you can restore it whenever you like. Everything else here depends on speed: the automatic save is overwritten every couple of hours, and Minehut support can only go back 24 hours.
What this article covers:
- First, check the world is really gone
- Restore a saved backup
- Try the automatic temporary backup
- Ask Minehut support, and do it now
- Who can reset a server
- Stop it happening again
First, check the world is really gone
Sometimes the world is still on the server and the game has simply loaded a different one.
- Go to the Minehut dashboard and sign in, find your server on My Servers and click Manage.
- In the row of tabs across the top, click File Manager.
- Look for your world folder in the file list. The default one is called
world.
If the folder is there, the world still exists. Click Settings, find the World Settings section, and set Selected World to that folder's name. Click Save Changes, then Restart.
Restore a saved backup
This is the reliable option, and it works no matter how long ago the reset happened. Saved backups are not deleted by a reset.
- In the row of tabs across the top of the server panel, click Backups.
- Find the backup you want under Saved Backups and click Restore.
If you have never made a backup, there will be nothing listed here. Try the next section.
Try the automatic temporary backup
Every server keeps one rolling save, separate from your saved backups. On the Backups tab, find Automatic Temporary Backups and click Restore Now.
This is a long shot, and it gets worse the longer you wait. There is only ever one temporary save, and it is overwritten every time the server saves: every 2 hours, when the server shuts down, and when it hibernates. If the reset was a while ago, or the server has been running since, the temporary save is almost certainly the reset world rather than your old one.
Check Last temporary save next to it. If that timestamp is after your world disappeared, restoring will not bring it back.
Ask Minehut support, and do it now
If nothing above worked, Minehut may still be able to recover your world. This depends entirely on how fast you act, and on the server not saving again in the meantime.
- Stop the server immediately. Click Stop at the top of the server panel. If it will not stop, click Settings, scroll to Danger Zone, and click Force Hibernate.
- Leave it alone. Do not join it, restart it, upload anything or change any files. Every time the server saves, it writes over the data support would recover from.
- Contact Minehut support straight away. Tell them your server name, that the world was reset or deleted, and roughly when it happened.
There is a 24 hour limit, and it is not a guarantee. Minehut can restore from the automatic saves for up to 24 hours after a save was taken. After that the data is gone permanently. Even inside the window it is not certain to work, so the sooner you stop the server and ask, the better your chances.
You cannot do this part yourself. The saves support restores from are not the same as the Restore Now button on the Backups tab.
Who can reset a server
Only the server owner can use Reset Server. Sub users cannot, whatever permissions you have given them.
If files or worlds were deleted through the File Manager instead, the Audit Log shows who did it. You will find it on the Sub users tab. The Audit Log does not record server resets.
Stop it happening again
- Make a saved backup now. On the Backups tab, click Back Up Now. Every server gets at least one slot, including free ones.
- Keep a copy off the server. Click File Manager, tick your world folder and click Download. Backups themselves cannot be downloaded, but your live files can.
- Be careful who you give sub user access to. File access lets someone delete worlds. For more information, see How do I add Sub Users to my server?
